The paddle steamer Freya is provided with auxiliary propulsion. The ship has an additional screw propeller driven by means of a 400kW diesel engine, that increases the speed to 8,5 knots.

The compound engine onboard the paddle steamer Freya was installed during refurbishment 1926. This steam engine comes from a steam dredger, at the time it was not possible to find a more powerful engine with larger paddlewheels.
